About Christi

Welcome!

I am Christi Covington, a second-generation homeschooler and one of those rare native Central Texans. Nurtured in the Charlotte Mason method and trained in the classical tradition, my earliest memories are of my dad reading to me aloud every night and my mom taking me to every museum, park and historical marker she could find. I graduated with a major in Communications/Journalism and a minor in History from the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor. During those years, I also attended the World Journalism Institute, studying worldview under author Nancy Pearcey, an experience that deepened my affection for integrated studies and beliefs. After a few internships and adventures, I worked as a business and local government reporter and loved it. When my husband and I began to have our kids, I transitioned into homeschooling our two sons and daughter, reading first my mom's old copy of A Charlotte Mason Companion, which led to other great reads. I have yet to stop reading, bless my heart. I do not expect to stop anytime soon.

I value continued learning for myself and enjoy regularly attending The Circe Institute National Summer Conference, as well as completing 3 semesters of the Classical Learning Cohort through Classical Conversations. I love guiding students to learn as God made them to learn – through thoughtful questions, excellent stories, diligent work and curious wonder. I love my students for I have been loved as a student myself – first and still, by my parents who never quit being there for counsel and encouragement; later by my mom’s dearest friend who studied history with me and knew to give me my own copies of Jane Eyre and Paradise Lost when I left for college; then by that college professor who took me under her wing, brought me healthy snacks on Sunday into the newspaper office and took her news girls all over the state to write big stories; by so many other wonderful teachers; and most of all, by my God who gave us this whole wide world as our classroom of His greatness and love.

Please note: I teach as a Christian, affirm the Nicene Creed and believe Scripture to be wholly true and infallible. I honor Jesus Christ as my Lord and Savior. I want to enjoy Him and worship Him forever. I believe every child is born a person and that families are the design of God, meaning parents are the best and rightful provider and director of their children’s education. As a home education partnership class, parents will be expected to engage with students, require completion of home assignments, provide accountability for class participation and engage in final assessment. While I am glad for students to communicate with me by email during the week with questions, parents must be attached to all communication.
